3 days agoThe article does talk about a lot of what I’m saying here: I’ve kept a wide array of critters and honestly exotic pets are not for 99% of people. Even things that are “exotic light” such as ferrets or hedgehogs require enough special care that a significant portion of people won’t be able to keep up with that and daily life. Actually exotic or wild critters aren’t even going to be useful as a pet for most people since they don’t socialize with humans much if at all. Just get a cat, and if you have to brag about how expensive your pet is then get an expensive cat.
That was my immediate thought too. They’ve helped me get through so much shit, as well as if things are going well already just being a bonus positive experience for me. One of my exes used them to successfully start recovery from a bunch of childhood trauma (still needed therapy and all that but the mushies got them to a place they were able to start the full journey). They really are like magic
