Chinese automaker Chery just made one of the boldest warranty promises in the EV industry. If a battery fire damages your car, the customer will get a whole new one without any asterisks or fine print about fault.
Generally, if there’s a battery fire you need a whole new car. And possibly a new home.
Sure, but aside from how vanishingly rare that happening is (despite fossil fuel propaganda) I think the point here is to deflate the propaganda - “if it happens new car, no arguments” is a solid signal for anyone with a functioning brain that they’re confident they’ll never have to pay out
I remember the Ford Pinto. They knew it was going to be a disaster. They sold it anyway because it wouldn’t kill enough people to be non-profitable.
Cars burning is a problem that predates modern electric cars. But modern cars are uniquely problematic because metal fires are hard to extinguish.
That’s an easy offer, as EVs burning happens less than combustion engines catching fire 🤓😝 it’s like offering full replacement for a house should it spontaneously collapse.
Media is shit…they take the time to inflate a handful of EV fires, but completely ignore ICE BMWs blowing up everywhere.

Is this still happening? The article you linked is over a decade old
It has been going on for a decade.
And another big recall for fires announced today.
BMW had the genius idea to design fuel systems and engines with plastic components designed to fail after a set number of heat cycles. These systems are under high pressure so when they fail, they literally spray fuel all over a hot engine. Result is many roasted douchebags.
Far more frequent than all EVs totaled.
Then they wonder why the German car industry is dying fast.
