The United States has launched an investigation into Germany to determine whether there has been underpayment for innovative pharmaceutical products affecting trade in the US.
“This investigation will seek to determine whether persistent underpayment for innovative pharmaceutical products by Germany is unreasonable or discriminatory and burdens or restricts US commerce,” said US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
“President Trump has made clear that American patients should not be shouldering a disproportionate share of global pharmaceutical research and development,” said Greer.
“I am particularly concerned with news that Germany is fast-tracking legislation that would further reduce its spending on innovative pharmaceuticals,” Greer said.
He said this was a “serious step backwards at a time when our trading partners need to step up and start paying their fair share to fund innovative pharmaceutical research and development.”
So, what normal countries do, because they exist to serve their nation, is call a drug manufacturer and say “hey buddy, would you like 83 million potential customers?” And the drug company goes “hell yeah we do”, to which the country says “great, sell to us for 6 bucks”. The company then goes “but we sell for 132 bucks in the USA, we need more money”. A smart country would reply “we know it costs you 2 bucks to make and 50 cents to ship, but if you don’t want the money, that’s fine…”
But now drug companies have figured out that they can buy the US government for the price of basically a few rounds of golf, so they have. And now Germany is “under investigation” for not allowing themselves to be sufficiently exploited.
If you watch what drugs are being looked at, odds are those businesses have made bribes to the right people recently.
Probably no coincidence that mRNA approvals have made the news in the past few days as well after rejections.
I’m confused, the US sold drugs to Germany at a certain price point and now is investigating underpayment? Unless they didn’t pay what was agreed this statement makes no sense.
Orange man won’t have to worry about America shouldering the development of drugs for too much longer, the brain drain is already in progress thanks to him
