Hello there !

I wanted to know what to do when you start piracy

I want to play a game, but don’t want to give any money to mustache plumber companie, so i figured out i will be pirating the game

Thing is, i don’t have the slightest idea of where to begin, where to find the files, what behaviour are safe, what practices are bad or dangerous and so on

Mostly on the internet for emulation tutorial, the step “get a rom file pf the game” is never explained (quite understandable)

So if you have ressources to link that explains the “basics” of pirating, i would be very happy :)

Somewhere on this community’s main page exists a link, depending on the device you’re using.

    https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/

Start reading. Don’t dive in. Read all you can read, understand everything you can, take all the precautions and only start your journey when you believe you’re ready.

    You just did, congrats!

The sidebar has a community wiki with FAQ that might answer most of your questions https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/faq/ ; also be sure to check https://fmhy.net/ which will have a neatly organised list of website that might interest you depending on what you’re looking for.

Protect yourself: first and foremost, get a VPN, you can try ProtonVPN for free, Mullvlad is considered the best (arguably, but you don’t have the needs/knowledge yet for the nitpicky details to matter), a VPN will hide from your ISP where you go on the web, it’s a good privacy option even before piracy

      +1

      Port forwarding (advanced)

Regarding Mullvad, which I am using, and this will be more relevant once you’ve familiarized yourself with the basics and if you choose to use torrents: since they don’t have port forwarding (making your torrenting application reachable from the internet), you will only ever be a so called passive seeder. If you, down the road, would want to contribute as much as possible, go for a VPN that supports port forwarding. But don’t focus on this for now. Bookmark it, or something.

In terms of emulators, the only Nintendo ones I’ve used are DeSmuME, which is a DS emulator, and Dolphin, which is a GameCube and Wii emulator. Both worked pretty well in my experience and I can’t recall having any particular issues. In terms of ROMs, just search “game name console name ROM” and you should be able to find what you need pretty easily

As others have said, use a VPN when pirating

Eden for Switch and Cemu for Wii U as well.

Plus a number of options for the older consoles and handhelds, but Retroarch would cover those.
