Its much the same here, honestly in context it would be fairly clear what is meant. I mostly say dinner rather than tea myself. But yeah, the social thing to come and sit with a hot drink, regardless of tea or coffee, is generally to offer it as tea before asking if they want tea or coffee.

Offer of a hot beverage:
- Would you like a tea?
- How about a tea?
- (Shouting from kitchen) - Tea?
Even less ambiguous if cuppa/brew etc. is used Typically only offered in the morning or afternoon if you have just ‘popped round’.
Offer of dinner:
- Would you like to stay for tea?
- Come round mine for tea
- Have you had tea yet?
- Oh you should stay for tea
Typically if you you weren’t intending on staying or are being explicitly invited over.
Don’t see how any of this could be confusing at all to people not born into it with innate understanding 😅

2·9 days agoThat might be more of a culture things, i grew up with manuals and pulling the handbrake and putting it into first or reverse is still second nature to me and I’d think most people here. If anything the introduction of the auto handbrake is causing people to lose the habit.
But with my car I don’t really see how anyone could make a mistake. If you open the door in anything other than park, it screams at you. If you are in park and open it then it loudly applies them.

3·10 days agoSeems a bit harsh… Especially as if I put my car into park then the electronic handbrake turns on anyway. I never have to pull it manually

Thank god somebody can articulate it! I hate being lumped in with the ‘noooo, lemon and herb Nandos is too spicy’ crowd. I just had the last of my Wiltshire Chilli Farm “Fatalii” hot sauce on my dinner, very nice sauce.
I use it a lot when I’m driving if I have a bottle in the drinks holder. I’ve had quite a few funny comments from people wondering how I do it so easily.
I’m hypermobile but most people can do this with practice, especially with bottles. Its actually an essential part of aseptic technique in microbiology labs when drawing from a bottle or sample container.
I think thats taking what they said a bit too literally, both the knowledge they do have and the tone makes it pretty clear to me that they know what they are saying but are using it for humerous (heh) exaggeration and effect.

Casual related dropping of a new community I just made - particularly the only post I’ve put in there so far as it is more than a little appropriate to this post. Was gonna get more content in there before I started dropping links but people have already found the post I made apparently 😅.
Technically an NSFW community but very soft NSFW, its more the topic than the content…
