A Department of Energy webpage recommending summer thermostat settings of 75-78°F has disappeared from the agency's website after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani promoted a similar temperature.
I have noticed that there are two distinct ways that people interpret “turning the AC down”.
Half – generally those who live in a place where central AC is common – will mean that they will lower the temperature on the thermostat so the room will get colder.
The other half – generally those who have portable air conditioners that do not display temperature – will mean that they will turn the machine’s power down so that the room will get warmer.
I never assume meaning from this phrase for this reason.
