How could they possibly compete with REAL mexican food?
Dude Mexicans fucking love fake Mexican food. As someone that was trapped in Texas for years, with real Mexican food available in every other strip mall, every single latino friend I had but especially the ones that were first-gen always made us get taco bell or taco cabana for lunch when it was their turn to pick a place.
That being said the reason this will fail is Chipotle’s awful prices compared to what you get, especially if they bring this cali-mex style to anywhere with similar habits of putting rice in burritos.
texas is a REALLY unique place when it comes to anything mexican or tex-mex; using them as a measure of anything leads to bad ends.
In China, some Chinese-American style restaurants have opened up and have become pretty trendy on Chinese social media
This is for tourists who are too chicken to eat the local fare
And long for the stomach parasites from american lettuce
It was always funny hearing people tell me “Oh, you’re going to (place that isn’t the USA)? DON’T DRINK THE WATER HAHAHA”
Especially after all the fucking infrastructure for water treatment started to collapse and now there’s plenty of places where the water will fuck your guts up something fierce

Bottled water always tasted weird to me
Ended up with built-in tap water filter and it’s like my kidneys rose up and cheered
Tap water is cleaner than bottled water. It has fewer pollutants and fewer microorganisms than bottled water.
I gotta start selling “Living Water” to these MAHA types

Why in the hell would they open that in Mexico out of all places? In addition to their food being flavourless, literally. (At least it was the case for me when I ordered out of curiosity)
