I mean, the entire idea that TERFs would protest anything besides trans people existing is already so brainwormed, you can immediately tell this guy does not fully understand what TERFs are because he only knows them as that one lesbian couple he’s been friends with for 30 years. He very obviously just doesn’t understand that literally every single TERF protest is 10 people all employed at the same billionaire sponsored hate group standing around with several thousand euros worth of camera equipment and a bunch of professionally printed signs with workshopped designs and slogans to produce footage for a handful of fashy news outlets. In his mind, transphobia in the queer community is just a quirk of his friends Susan and Carol who used to be in the Lesbian Avengers and are now running an antiques shop and a dog pension in a sea bath in Cornwall and are falsely blaming trans women for the fact they have not been to a lesbian bar since 1992. I would immediately believe him if he told me how he thinks that Susan and Carol are very, very wrong about trans women, but i am very certain he does not understand how they fit into the organized queerphobia ecosystem because he is in a place now that is very far from the front. His heart is certainly not in the worst place, but his material conditions shield him from seeing all the nasty details.

srs tho, these laws are never designed to be taken at face value, it’s always entirely about the transphobia and any fallout is shrugged off. Everybody behind this stuff knows this. None of them care about the inevitable consequences of running on fairytale bullshit like objective, binary and immutable biological sex. It’s the same as telling a terf that her definition of woman excludes intersex cis women. People think that’s a gotcha, but leading terfs like Janice Raymond have outright stated that it doesn’t bother them.
