The anger and anxiety over electricity in America is palpable. You can see it in packed utility commission hearings, in protests against companies, and in furious reactions on social media.
And you can see it in the polling. Across poll after poll, more people are saying that they can’t afford their bills and they think utilities need to change how they make money. And they are also very cynical about data centers.
So will this be the push utilities need to finally change the way utilities pay for infrastructure?
This week, we dig into three indicators. First: 75% of Americans say their home energy costs have gone up, and a quarter of Americans now consider utility bills unaffordable. Second: 86% of California voters said executive pay should be tied to affordability. And third: 71% of Americans would now oppose a data center being built near their home, a 49-point swing in less than a year.
So will this be the push utilities need to finally change the way utilities pay for infrastructure?
oh sure, in America public opinion usually wins out over the desires of the rich and powerful, right?
Are they paying these bodyguards in water? Their loyalty won’t last for long if things keep worsening.
I dunno. Lot of these bodyguards are former military types/cops/etc who already have mostly chud tendencies. I can see bodyguards doubling down honestly. I could see it going both ways tbh
I suspect a large number of them don’t think that far ahead. The capitalist doesn’t see any idea beyond the dollar sign at the end of their nose
remember when news outlets would post a piece like “china has overbuilt electricity - BUT AT WHAT COST?”
This has been going on for years. I have a friend that does land management for the local power company and a team gets threatened by land owners monthly, even when they are there to restore power after a storm.
Those bozos only have guns for show, and Blacks. The CEOs will be alright.
