Also, for an alternative news source than Politico:

All that’s happening is now Nuclear weaponry can legally be transported to Finland, though the government has currently agreed on not having any of the weaponry.

When the US put nukes in Turkey, right next to the Soviet Union, we escalated to a situation in the Cold War that almost destroyed all life on earth.

I guess let’s do it again with Russia?

Exactly this. The arrogance of these fuckers. Even if this policy could make Finland safer — it doesn’t, but let’s imagine — what gives them the right to push the whole world closer to nuclear war?

Their much much larger belligerent neighbor has been invading nations based on flimsy historical precedent. Why wouldn’t they do this?

“This is not hard math” misses the point that nuclear weapons are an abomination, and that situating parts of a nuclear weapons system directly on Russia’s border increases the risk of miscalculation and a nuclear exchange, and consequently genocide on an unimaginable scale.

Last person I talked to who talked like this thought RFK Jr would have made a great president.

Nuclear deterrent. Mutually assured destruction. These are the things that have kept the peace for the last 60+ years. No one fires nukes because they know that nukes are the end of the world. And people don’t invade borders of people who have nukes because nukes are the end of the world. Take note that the only countries that have been invaded by other countries since nuclear proliferation began are countries that do not have nuclear weapons.

Your fear is childish. Your real fear should be of the people who use your fear of nuclear proliferation to manipulate you.

Nonsense. Civilian infrastructure deep within Russia is bombed with NATO intel and weapons almost daily. World’s biggest nuke arsenal.

NATO is not supplying anything to Ukraine. I don’t think you understand what NATO actually is. If Ukraine was actually part of NATO, Russia would have to immediately back off because that would add the nuclear deterrent Ukraine needs to stop the invasion, because NATO is a nuclear alliance. If any one country is attacked, all the other countries would retaliate. That is why Zelenskyy wanted Ukraine to be part of NATO and why he said that if Ukraine were to be allowed to join he would resign as president immediately. However they are continually rebuffed because seven nations, including the United States and Germany, are blocking their accession to NATO.

NATO is not supplying anything to Ukraine, really? Where does Ukraine get all its weapons, intel and training?

Individual nations like Poland who’ve seen this sort of thing happen before and determined to help fight it.

You should learn to make the distinction between a NATO allied nation and NATO itself. Individual countries are still free to do what they like in terms of international intelligence and weapon sales.

I thought the same thing when they left an anti landmine group, but like others said, their neighbors are acting erratically and dangerous for national safety.

As I understand now, using mines gives a smaller defender a lot more power then a big attacker. Landmines still suck ass ofc but at least I understand the choice to use them from a country like Finland.

Nukes sound similar. If you can project mutually assured destruction, enemy choices are limited.

Finland is already a member of NATO. Situating nuclear weapons there doesn’t increase the “deterrent” effect of NATO nukes. Instead, it increases the likelihood that Russia will feel compelled to rely on faster, more automated systems to determine if NATO has initiated a surprise attack, and to retaliate. We’re seconds to midnight on the doomsday clock, and these fuckers think it’s clever to announce this horrendous policy.

Decades of rampant governments led by a Republican sub-party

not saying that the slightly left leaning capitalist parties did anything to revert, it’s ratchet politics

Some of the far left wing parties were pro nuclear weaponry long before the right wing was. Otherwise we’d be dependant on equally problematic and fascist states like the USA.

There’s one moderate left. Far might be SKP but it’s kind of a schrödingers situation, tough to verify if this some red fascist psyop project or leftist

Correction: Far left by US standards, since the mentioned US Republicans.

That said I’d put Green party at solid Left wing, and the United Left as a bit farther than moderate left.

            SDP are the the centrists.

Ah but the US duopoly is between right wingers.

Finnish Green party is full on capitalist. SDP are teetering on the edge but stuck on capitalism, so sure. Centrist but leaning. Left Allience is very very moderate and dry. They might have the correcting direction, but the momentum to actually be progressive is lacking.
