When was america ever good? When it genocided the indigenous population of the land just as Israel is doing to Palestinians? Or when it used slavery to construct itself? Or when its capitalists funded the european fascists? Or when Hitler was inspired by American history? Or when it engaged in the wholesale slaughter of communist movement after communist movement? Or when the hegemony maintained itself through couping and the mass destruction of every left wing movement on the planet so that imperialism could exploit unopposed?
There isn’t a single period of american history that isn’t bathed in blood. The “good” america that you believe existed is a figment of propaganda, a period of ignorance of the horror america has always commited that you wish to go back to. You can never go back to that ignorance, you can’t close your eyes again after they have been opened.
I’m no history buff so I am unable to come up with specific examples, but IMHO this has always been the way of the human race. America has just been the most powerful bully on the block for the last century or two. Seemingly soon, it’ll be someone else. History is littered with this shit because humans are still animals at heart, and will be for the foreseeable future. They unfortunately have just enough intelligence to come up with extremely destructive capabilities, but not enough to keep the biggest bullies from using them.
You will be pleased to learn that this is not true and not only is a better world possible it has existed in plenty of times and places and can exist again if we make it.
But it hasn’t always been like this. America has been at war for all but five years since the end of WWII. That is utterly unprecedented. They actually are worse than everyone else.

You don’t have to be a history buff to know that PEACE is a thing that most countries, even the shitty empires, all engaged in at one point or another. The US does not know peace, it divides the entire planet up into operational zones and engages in constant warfare and influence on every single part of the planet.
The quantity and density of atrocities the US has committed are completely unprecedented in the history of the world. If you doubt that, have a scroll.

There was a short period of time when America was at least at war against the right people…? 1861-1865 was kinda the moral high point of the nation.
The industrializing North had little use for slavery, which was unprofitable for manufacturing. Unending streams of European immigrants to the North (in large part sourced by enclosure acts like those in Scotland in the early 1800s)[3] provided a huge reserve army of labor cheaper than what it would cost to buy, care for, guard, and educate enslaved people.
Even agricultural regions in the North were ill-suited to slavery, as wheat crops were seasonal and enslaved people would need vital needs provided year round. In the North, slavery wasn’t abolished on a moral level, rather it was simply less economical than “free” labor from a reserve army of labor.
The Civil War began as a war against separatism, and Lincoln did not initially want to abolish slavery. Later, when slaves and freedmen entered the Union army, they turned the war into a revolution against slavery.[5] After many enslaved people had already escaped to the North, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and allowed them to serve in the Union army.
I didn’t say it was the moral high point because they were fighting against slavery, just that they were at least fighting someone who deserved it. It’s a low bar.

Most small towns no longer shoot minorities after sunset if they are still in the city limits unaccompanied.
Women do not loose their children and money if they divorce.
People live longer.
There are only a few legal ways to enslave someone, as opposed to the multiple traps many could fall into.

I think it’s useful to make note of the fact that life in the US has gotten progressively worse since the fall of the USSR. Basically the only reason anything got better was because they were afraid of people becoming communists. Those were concessions.
Expect everything old to be new again. All those bad old things that we got rid of will come roaring back. Like abortion bans.
